Men face skin care problems every day of their lives. They are unaware of the proper skin care techniques and methods. Yes, it may seem odd because caring for the skin must come as a natural form of hygiene. But what men mostly know about is shaving and applying the basic cream. It is not that they are totally ignorant of it but men in the old days did not pay much attention of caring for their skin compared with that of women. Yes, most may have been concerned of the early signs of aging but it used to be a sign of hard work and the society grew to accepting the fact that men did have more skin problems than women.

Changing Times

Today, the men face skin care regimens at a much more practical approach. They are more concerned and well informed, thanks to the internet and media awareness. There are thousands of skin care products for men in the market these days. It is not considered a taboo anymore for men to care for their skin. Manufacturers and companies that are directly involved in the cosmetic industry have been able to condition the minds of the society into accepting men who truly care for their skin. They have accomplished this by showing advertisements involving real men worried about how old they look and want to get rid of the signs of aging. Skin problems such as dark circles, puffiness, eye bags, fine lines, crow’s feet, acne, and blemishes are addressed in the commercials.

The products however are somewhat different from that of women’s cosmetics. This is because the men are more exposed to harsh environmental conditions. They are also under the damaging rays of the sun more often than women because of their line of work or recreational activities. Their skin type and texture is also different on certain aspects with that of women’s skin. Men’s skin’s thicker but becomes thinner as they grow older. They larger pores, smaller sebaceous glands but produce more sebum. Their skin is more delicate because of frequent shaving and more prone to acne and ingrown hairs.
